Sex Rato Analysis Using QGIS

This GIS project analyzes six decades of Census data using QGIS to visualize state-wise gender trends across India. By creating thematic maps from 1961 to 2011, it highlights regional demographic disparities and assesses the impact of socio-economic factors and policy interventions over time.

This GIS-based demographic study leverages Quantum GIS (QGIS) to analyze and visualize spatial-temporal trends in India's state-wise sex ratio across six decades of official Census data (1961–2011). By integrating historical Census metrics with administrative boundary shapefiles, the project applies equal interval symbology to construct a series of thematic maps that illustrate changing female-to-male ratios over time. The resulting spatial analysis uncovers significant regional demographic disparities, highlighting persistent gender parity in southern and northeastern states—such as Kerala—alongside historically suppressed ratios in northern regions like Haryana and Punjab. Furthermore, the project contextualizes these geographical patterns against broader socio-economic indicators and landmark policy initiatives, demonstrating how spatial data visualization transforms complex historical statistics into clear, actionable insights for demographic and policy research.
